Course overview

Training is conducted at Shelby County Sheriff's Office, 810 Dovecrest Rd, Memphis, TN. This is a physically demanding course with little traditional classroom instruction. Students must be able to perform under stressful situations for extended periods. Training occurs regardless of weather conditions — plan to train in cold or wet environments.

Students with pre-existing medical conditions should contact MTTOA prior to enrolling. Team medics should bring aid bags, litters, and other training aids used in actual situations. Nothing during the course is notional, including casualty care.

Required gear

  • Uniform / clothing of your choice
  • Footwear (no open toe shoes)
  • Jacket / rain jacket
  • 3-day or similar backpack
  • Ballistic helmet
  • Gas mask w/ clear poly-carbonate eye cover and filter
  • Ballistic eye protection (clear)
  • Ear protection (must cover ears and fit under helmet)
  • NVGs w/ sacrificial lens and mounts (if available)
  • Throat protection (Simunition rounds)
  • Tactical vest / plate carrier w/ ammo pouches
  • Duty carbine or SMG w/ sling, light, optic
  • Duty pistol w/ holster and weapon light
  • Tactical gloves
  • Handheld flashlight
  • Athletic cup
  • 1,000+ rounds carbine / SMG ammunition
  • 1,000+ rounds handgun ammunition
  • Simunitions kits for carbine and pistol (if available)
  • 50 green / 10 blue chem lights
